In the Clearing

By Robert Dugoni

Who would have thought that solving a current murder in a big city would be just as difficult as trying to solve a 40 year cold case from a small town?

Tracy Crosswhite and her fellow detectives are faced with what seems like an open and shut case, but when both mother and son confess to the same crime, it becomes an uphill battle to find the truth.  If that wasn't difficult enough, Tracy's friend Jenny asks Tracy to revisit a forty year old case from a very small town.  Jenny's dad, Buzz, was the officer who found teenager Kimi Kanasket dead in the water.  Though ruled a suicide, Buzz was never satisfied with that conclusion.  Now, forty years later and with no one in town talking, this cold case may be dead in the water as well.

I liked how Robert Dugoni had Tracy working on two seemingly unrelated cases, yet solving one of them helped figure out the other!

Her Final Breath

 24937499

By Robert Dugoni

If the victims end up killing themselves while actually trying to save themselves, is it really murder? You bet it is! A serial killer is still on the loose in Seattle. He is called the Cowboy for his expertise in tying knots. Tracy Crosswhite is put in charge of a The Cowboy Task Force. Her captain, John Nolasco, put her in charge only because he wants to see Tracy fail. Things go from bad to worse when the task force realizes they have a leak within the department, and it's coming from none other than John Nolasco himself. After he wheedles himself to take over the task force, the Cowboy is quickly caught and the case is wrapped up quickly. Nolasco thinks he has only one thing left to do... rub it in Tracy's face. Little does he realize, his ego is so big, it blocks him from seeing the whole truth.

I love reading a story where the author makes it seem easy enough to identify the "bad guy", and yet, things are not always what they seem. Moving on to Book #3!

My Sister's Grave

What would you do if your sister is suddenly gone, just vanished from the face of the earth? For Tracy Crosswhite, she blamed herself for letting her sister drive her truck home alone, at night, in the rain. Even though Sarah's body was never found, there was circumstantial evidence that put Edmund House in prison for life. Sounds simple enough, but for Tracy, there were too many unanswered questions, and too many inconsistencies.

Now, twenty years later, Sarah's body is found in the mountains and Tracy won't stop until all of her questions are answered. It's been said, be careful what you wish for. Tracy is about to find out if having all the answers really does get justice for Sarah.

I won a copy of book four, A Trapped Girl, by Robert Dugoni, and I thought I would start the series at the beginning. I am certainly glad I did! Moving on to book two, Her Final Breath, next!
